Android is a smartphone layer built on the top of the linux operating system. Current hacks allows breaking into linux itself and installing full linux (e.g. debian) distro beside of Android. Yes, you have a fully working phone as previously, a linux distro is an additional feature you can run in the same time.

Google G1 smartphone

This is the first working Android phone.

Navit porting

Currently there are two things TODO:

* to research how to connect to GPS from inside the linux distro - probably you can just read /dev/smd27
* to build an 'armel' navit package.

This page will be constantly updated in a harmony with a progress of porting.

Do not bother to contact me if you have any useful ideas in connection with navit on Android. --SergiuszPawlowicz 13:13, 28 February 2009 (CET)
